Head of English

The post is full-time, based at the ISC on the University of Sussex campus and will commence on 1 September 2008

The University of Sussex ISC was established by means of a partnership between the University and Study Group and took its first students in summer 2006. It now has 200 students on roll.

The Centre prepares students specifically for degrees of the University by means of a Foundation Programme with five streams, Business, Engineering, Law, Life Sciences and Media Studies. From summer 2008 students will also be accepted onto a Pre-Masters Programme leading to three specified Masters Courses offered at the University.

Both of these Programmes involve a substantial element of tuition in English Language and Academic Skills Development and, in addition, the Centre offers an English Language Preparation Programme (ELPP) for those students wishing to study English intensively, usually for one or two terms, to prepare themselves to meet the entry standards for the Centre’s academic courses.

The Head of English will be responsible for this important element of the Centre’s work and will also have a further role in supporting the Head of Centre in the academic management of the Centre.

It is anticipated that the successful applicant would be either Masters or DELTA qualified and would have experience in delivering English courses to overseas students in a University or College environment. To have held a post with some measure of responsibility would be considered an advantage.

The post involves a substantial teaching element.
