CHANGING YOUR MAJOR

Fisher College's academic programs are designed to be  flexible so that, generally, you may change your major without difficulty or adverse consequences.

An Academic Advisors will be assigned to you to assist in selecting the appropriate courses necessary to meet your educational objectives.

TRANSFER OF CREDIT

Credits earned on Fisher College associate's degrees are generally transferable to similar undergraduate programs of four-year colleges and universities.

After 2 years of study at Fisher, you can continue with another 2 years of study to earn a bachelor's degree.

Because specific program requirements vary among institutions, students wishing to transfer should work closely with their advisor at the College to ensure the maximum transfer of credit.

Business Administration

This program combines a foundation in general management theory with skill development in specific business management subject areas including Financial Accounting, Managerial Accounting, Introduction to Finance, Principles of Management, and Human Resource Management. On graduation, you will be ready to enter a career or transfer to a bachelor's degree. Graduates typically find employment in fields including banking, insurance, retailing and wholesaling, personnel, advertising, manufacturing, government, transportation and healthcare.

Accounting concentration

The Accounting program is an opportunity to obtain a well-rounded education so you can function effectively and successfully in a general business environment and specifically in the field of accounting. The curriculum provides a thorough overview of accounting as well as improving analytical and logical abilities, communication, interpersonal skills, and social and ethical awareness in the business world.

Hospitality and Tourism

An ideal program if you want a career with travel agencies, tour companies, airlines, hotels, convention centers and other hospitality agencies. Designed to compliment entry into the Hospitality and Tourism concentration of the Bachelor of Science in Management degree.

Fashion Design

The Fashion Design program is practical and creative training that prepares you to make patterns and sew garments in the manner of fashion designers. It also introduces pattern making and construction methods used in garment manufacturing. You will develop skills in pattern drafting, French draping, garment construction, and fashion illustration. You will gain a knowledge of textiles and costume history enabling you to make viable design and construction decisions.

Fashion Merchandising

A leader in Fashion Merchandising education, this program provides a broad background in the fashion merchandising and retail management sectors. Upon completion of the program, you will have the knowledge and skills necessary to enter the exciting fashion industry.

Liberal Arts

Provides a well rounded education in preparation for transfer to a bachelor's program or for some entry-level career positions. The curriculum fulfills the core requirements taken in the first two years of most bachelor's degree programs. A concentration is not required for graduation.

Humanities concentration

This program prepares you to major in one of the Humanities at bachelor's degree level. It provides a solid background as well as the opportunity to determine interest in an area of study. Humanities subjects at Fisher College include communications, English, fine arts, foreign language, humanities, philosophy, and women's studies.

Justice Studies concentration

This program prepares you for transfer into a bachelor's degree in disciplines such as criminal justice, criminology, law, or government. Professionals in these fields work with a diverse public and address a variety of social issues. Social and behavioral sciences are combined with appropriate criminal justice courses. 

Social Sciences concentration

This program prepares you to major in one of the Social Sciences at bachelor's degree level. It provides a solid background as well as the opportunity to determine interest in an area of study. Social Sciences subjects at Fisher College include anthropology, economics, geography, government, history, human services, psychology, and sociology.

Women's Studies concentration 

The program offers interdisciplinary study of women and society. It is an excellent foundation for transfer into a bachelor's degree in Women's Studies, yet its liberal arts focus also prepares you for transfer into most other majors.

Health Sciences

This program provides a strong curriculum based in the biological sciences, humanities, and social sciences. You will be prepared to transfer to a bachelor's degree program in nursing or another Health Science-related program.

General Studies

While fulfilling the general education core required of all graduates, this program allows maximum flexibility for you to discover and pursue career, transfer, and personal goals. You will gain a general background in communications, social sciences, humanities, and mathematics/ science. Working with academic advisors, you will determine a program of courses that meet your individual needs and aptitudes.

Computer Information and Systems

The program offers a solid foundation for students new to the field of computer information & systems. Alice 2.0 is studied as an introductory visual pre-programming tool. Programming concepts are then applied in Microsoft Visual Studio 2008 using Visual Basic and C++. Robotics reinforce these concepts and apply them in a systems setting. Graduates are especially qualified for positions in IT support.

Psychology

This program provides a solid background for pursuit of a bachelor's degree in psychology through core psychology courses, psychology electives, and a statistics course. This degree also provides an adequate base for entering other social sciences majors.

Early Childhood Education

The program offers a broad base of theoretical and practical knowledge and an excellent preparation for a career in any child-care profession. You explore the intellectual, emotional, social and physical development of the child from birth through the pre-school years. An internship is an essential part of the program. The program satisfies course requirements for teacher certification in Massachusetts and competencies for the National Child Development Associate Certificate.
