YOUR CHOICE OF 4-YEAR BACHELOR'S MAJORS

On successful completion of the Foundation Diploma, you can choose to progress to the sophomore (2nd) year of one of the following bachelor's degrees at Fisher College:

Bachelor of Arts in Communications and Media Studies

The Communication and Media Studies major is an interdisciplinary program that combines courses in Communication, Advertising, Public Relations and Journalism. The program considers media industries and their relationship to culture and society, and the understanding of how communication works with an emphasis on the development of critical thinking, professional writing skills and effective oral communication. This major prepares you for a wide variety of careers in business and industry, advertising, public relations and journalism, or advanced study.

Bachelor of Science in Human Services

The Human Services major combines many disciplines to offer a program that will provide you with the theoretical and practical knowledge needed for success in the field. The program provides a comprehensive educational experience, incorporating internship experiences and courses focusing on discussion and role plays, emphasizing counseling skills, ethics, and crisis intervention. This broad area includes jobs in the health care sector (hospitals, mental health clinics), community organizations (homeless shelters, centers for victims of abuse and assault), working with adults and children with developmental delays, substance abuse problems, and a wide range of other social agencies. 

Bachelor of Science in Management

The Bachelor of Science in Management (BSM) is designed to give you an understanding of the various aspects of administrative practice and to develop judgment and skills necessary to perform effectively in the workforce. The program incorporates a carefully constructed business core curriculum with a strong grounding in management knowledge and skills. The study of management includes broad-based courses dealing with the economic and business environment as well as functional management courses with a specific discipline focus. A concentration allows you to take 3-5 classes in a specific area or discipline to give you greater knowledge and experience in that subject matter. You may choose to focus in an area of special interest through one of nine concentrations:

Management: Accounting

This concentration is designed to focus on accounting theory and practice. Throughout the program, you will gain the necessary skills to identify, measure, communicate, and interpret economic information. The field of accounting offers a variety of career choices that include, but are not limited to: positions in public accounting, tax preparation, management accounting, and financial consulting.

Management: Computer Information & Systems

This concentration is designed to give students an understanding of business functions, management principles and the critical role of technology modern businesses. You will gain a solid foundation in computer science and information systems, while also studying management fundamentals. This program enables you to pursue your own areas of interest within the field and to be competent a administrator within a technology-based organization.

Management: Fashion Merchandising

This concentration provides students with a comprehensive knowledge of the background, methods and requirements of merchandising and promoting fashion. The fundamentals of fashion development, fashion presentations and trend analyses are combined with advanced courses of marketing, consumer behavior, finance, international business and electronic commerce to prepare you for careers in fashion buying, fashion retail management, product research and development, styling for the media, promotion, public relations and event planning.

Management: Health Care Management

This concentration has an emphasis on developing managerial skills required to work in today’s regulated, complex health care field. You will have a solid foundation of knowledge in legal issues, marketing, financial accounting, health care reimbursement systems and performance improvement methods. Completing the program will prepare you for positions in hospitals, managed care organizations, community health centers, physical group practices, pharmaceutical companies and other types of facilities.

Management: Hospitality and Tourism Management

This concentration helps complement your business management studies with courses designed to familiarize you with the travel and hotel industry. Career fields open to graduates include travel agencies, tour operators, airlines, hotels, convention centers and government tourist offices.

Management: Human Resource Management

This concentration provides a thorough knowledge of the issues, topics, methods and requirements you will encounter in the field of Human Resources. You will be taught the fundamentals of management, psychology, ethics, and organization behavior. These combine with advanced courses in employment law and labor relations. An internship or senior project will prepare you for a career in the growing field of Human Resource Management.

Management: Leadership

The concentration in Leadership provides students with a comprehensive analysis of leadership principles and theory. You will assess and develop your own leadership skills and learn to recognize the elements of successful leadership from both a modern and historical perspective. You will gain a core understanding of the requirements for ethical leadership which will guide you as your career progresses and you continue to take on more responsible leadership roles.

Management: Marketing

This concentration is designed to further familiarize students with the theoretical concepts, skills, and tools necessary to successfully enter a career in marketing. You will learn to assess consumer behavior, review advertising principles, employ market research, and develop ways to position products and services.

Management: Public Administration

This concentration provides you with knowledge of the issues, topics, methods and requirements you will encounter in the field of public administration. The fundamentals of public administration will apply to students and practitioners who are interested in becoming department managers and supervisors in various areas of government service.
