Program length

This depends on your English Language level on entry - see entry requirements for details. Durations available are:

  • 2-semester Foundation Diploma - 9 months from start to finish (a normal academic year)
  • 3-semester Foundation Diploma  - 12 months (ISC students take classes through the summer)
  • 4 semesters* - 15 to 16 months

*1 semester English for Academic Purposes (EAP) followed by the 3-semester Foundation Diploma.

Program structure

You study English language alongside the credit-bearing courses required for the first (freshman) year of college. The time spent on studying English will vary depending on your proficiency and the duration of your Foundation Diploma. See course structure information

Entry points

You can join the Foundation Diploma program every:

  • Fall (September)
  • Spring (January) 
  • Summer (May)

Intakes for all program lengths are available each entry point. 

Entry requirements

See admissions section for academic and full English Language entrance requirements. 

To join the International Study Center, undergraduate-level students need a minimum equivalent of TOEFL 397PBT/30 iBT, or 3.0 IELTS. You do not need an official TOEFL or IELTS score, but you will need to complete the Study Group English test.

Progression

Progression is to the second (sophomore) year of a Fisher College bachelor's degree or an associate's degree, when you:

  • complete at least 24 university credits
  • achieve a language level equal to TOEFL 550 PBT/80 iBT
  • obtain a satisfactory average GPA according to the requirements of the degree you want to study
