Applying for a place at the International Study Centre

Application to both the Undergraduate Certificate and Pre-Masters Programme is fast, streamlined and straightforward. We accept applications all year round.

How to apply

  1. If you haven't contacted us before...

    Complete an online enquiry form. This is a great way to ask any questions you have about studying at the Heriot-Watt International Study Centre. We know that choosing where to study isn't an easy decision, One of our trained Student Enrolment Advisers will be in touch with you to help you make the right decision about where to study.  
  2. If you have all the information you need... 

    Complete the online application form.
    Note that you will be required to submit copies of all relevant academic transcripts and certificates of English language qualifications together with the completed application form.

The admission process

An expert Student Enrolment Adviser will support you through the whole process. Your admission to the International Study Centre will follow these simple steps:

  1. Submit your application (either online, by post or by fax)
  2. A Student Enrolment Adviser will contact you
  3. We carefully review your application and check you have suitable academic qualifications and level of English language.
  4. If your application is successful we will send you a formal offer of a place
  5. To accept your place you need to send us a confirmation payment and your completed Acceptance Form.  See Fees and Payment page for more details
  6. Upon receipt of your payment we will reserve a place for you in University accommodation.  You will also need to provide us with a valid Secure English Language Test* Please note if you are under 18 and would like to stay in private accommodation, you must provide your address in the UK before you can confirm.  
  7. We will send you a Certificate of Enrolment, confirming that you have a reserved place at the ISC and, if you need a visa, a Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS) reference number.  
  8. You then need to apply for a visa if necessary
  9. One month before the start of term you need to pay your remaining fees (either in full or your first instalment)
  10. Before the start of your course we will ask you for details of your flight to the UK, and will send you confirmation of your accommodation.
  11. You arrive in the UK the weekend before your programme starts – you will be met at the airport if you have booked a taxi transfer - to settle into your on-campus accommodation

Application deadline

We recommend that you submit your application as early as possible (and at least one month before the start of the course), because the visa application process can cause delays. However, to accomodate for delays in issuing visas, we can allow students to arrive up to two weeks after the course start date. This is subject to availability.
