Fitnesss facilities at Heriot-Watt

On campus you will find some of the best university sports facilities on offer in the whole of the UK. Your leisure time is catered for by clubs, bars and entertainment as well as a wide range of student groups and associations.

Sport Facilities

Heriot-Watt can accommodate and help develop all levels of sporting ambition. If you have even the slightest interest in sport and exercise, you will love the excellent, convenient indoor and outdoor facilities.

The coaching and support team can help you to further your sporting ambitions, whether it’s generally keeping fit, playing sport for the university or even achieving national and international status.

Sports facilities include three multi-purpose sports halls, three floodlit tennis courts, climbing wall, squash courts, Conditioning suite, Cardiovascular suite, golf academy and Sports Performance laboratory.

The impressive Sports Academy also offers an indoor astrodome, physiotherapy and rehabilitation suite, six full-sized UEFA football pitches and the Sport and Excercise Science and Medicine Centre.

The Sports Union, based at the centre for Sports and Exercise, is run by and for students. It currently supports more than 30 clubs, from football to fencing and from snow-sports to sub-aqua.

Entertainment

Catering for your social needs is an important aim for the Students’ Union. Run by the Students' Association, they believe it is important for life to exist beyond lectures, and offer a full programme of weekly entertainment including live music, pub quizzes, stand-up comedy and club nights. There are also bars, a café with WI-FI access, catering and club venues on campus.

Music

Music contributes to the very special atmosphere at Heriot-Watt. A musician in residence acts as a vital focus for musical activity throughout the University. The local community participates as both audience and performer, singing and playing musical instruments with students and staff. Heriot-Watt musicians have performed throughout Scotland – raising the University profile and developing musical skills and connections.

The wide range of musical interests includes an ‘a cappella’ scholars’ vocal group; the Inchcolm new Music Ensemble – the University contemporary music group; a pipe band, and of course, its very own choir and orchestra.
