Support services at Heriot-Watt University

Students at the International Study Centre (ISC) have access to all the support services at Heriot-Watt University throughout their studies at the ISC and the University.

Counselling services

A professional, confidential counselling service is available to all students. Any issue or concern can be discussed in confidence. Welfare Officers will also be available at the ISC. They will help you to settle in quickly during your first few days and will be available throughout your studies.

Health matters

The on-campus Health Centre provides top quality medical, nursing, dental and ancillary health care, including physiotherapy. Any health worries that you may have will be dealt with confidentially and efficiently. Students with special needs or disabilities are invited to make an appointment with one of the medical staff when they arrive, in order to discuss how their needs can best be met.

Student welfare

Student Welfare Services supports the ISC and offers practical advice and support on all kinds of issues including settling into university life, money, accommodation, disability and safety.

Facilities for worship

The Chaplaincy is open to everyone and welcomes those who are religious and those of no faith. It plays an active part in the social life of the University. All are welcome to use the chapel, prayer room and meeting room. The Chaplain and Honorary Chaplains are available for pastoral and counselling matters. Confidentiality is assured. It is a place of relaxation where you can watch TV, have a cup of tea or coffee, or if you are feeling more energetic, play snooker, table-tennis, or darts. You can also practise the piano or your own musical instrument. The University has dedicated Muslim Prayer Rooms on campus.

Disability service

Heriot-Watt University offers positive assistance and encouragement to students and applicants with special needs or disabilities. Students are given appropriate information and advice throughout their University career. Our campus is accessible to people with mobility problems and there are some on-site resources to meet certain special needs. Applications from candidates with special needs are assessed against the same academic criteria as all other candidates. We do however recommend early contact so that we can review accessibility

Equal opportunities

Heriot-Watt University is committed to promoting equality in all its activities and providing a work, learning, research and teaching environment free from discrimination and unfair treatment. We welcome students from all cultures and backgrounds to create an educational and social atmosphere which is inclusive of everyone.
