ISC students are guaranteed a place in safe and comfortable university accommodation for the first year of study.

Halls of Residence on Heriot-Watt University campus

Living on campus means you are within easy reach of your lectures, gym sessions or nights at the Students’ Union. Heriot-Watt's accommodation is safe and comfortable. As a new undergraduate student, you are guaranteed a place so long as you confirm your offer by the published accommodation deadline.

Note for January 2009 start

For January 2009 only, some students will be placed in Standard, Catered Residences. Each bedroom has a washbasin, but toilets and shower rooms are shared between six.  Students have access to a lounge and a pantry (for preparing snacks only). Weekly rent includes an allowance for buying meals at a variety of catering outlets across campus. For more information see the University's accommodation webpage.    


Your accommodation

All of the accommodation offered is University-managed, self-catered and within a 15 minute walk of the ISC and within a few minutes walk of the library and the University’s excellent sporting facilities.

Pre-Masters students are offered accommodation in Lord Thomson Hall.

Undergraduate Certificate students are placed in Robert Bryson Hall.

Rent

The accommodation is priced at £82 per week, which includes broadband access in every room, so keeping in touch with family and friends is easy. Rent is inclusive of utilities and personal effects insurance (for a maximum claim of £3,000 total, individual item value of £1,000).

Residence layout and facilities

The accommodation facilities are designed to complement all your learning needs but your social experience at Heriot-Watt is as important as your academic achievement.

You will have your own en-suite study bedroom. The rooms are between 10 and 12 square metres in size. Study bedrooms are grouped around kitchens for the use of 4, 5 or 6 students. The accommodation is designed to make the transition to university life as hassle-free as possible.

Each Hall gives access to home comforts and other facilities:

  • laundry (washing machines and dryers)
  • 24-hour computer labs
  • a warden in each hall who will help you settle in and sort out any problems you may have way.

Catering options

Although all ISC accommodation is self-catering, there are a range of catering venues on campus if you want a break from cooking for yourself. They includes the ‘Microbyte’, the Middle Floor Refectory, Café Brio and the Lectern Bar, as well the facilities in the Students' Association.


Students with disabilities

20 bedrooms on the campus are equipped for students with mobility difficulties or students who are wheelchair users. These are also in self catering residences, most with accessible en-suite facilities, telephone and internet access.
