Welcome from the Head of Centre

Sandy Tippett, Head of Heriot-Watt University International Study Centre, welcomes students who are considering coming to University in the UK:

Sandy Tippett, Head of the International Study Centre"The new International Study Centre (opened in September 2008), based on Heriot-Watt University’s Edinburgh campus, is an ideal platform for you to prepare for degree study.

My job, as Head of Centre, is to support students and the ISC team in any way I can to help you achieve your goals. Together with the Centre Administrator and ISC tutors, we will ensure that you quickly settle into your new environment.

The ISC is housed in a modern, completely refurbished building with excellent IT facilities and well-appointed classrooms. Your course of study at the ISC will not only help you to achieve the academic standards required by the University but it will also help you to become familiar with studying and living in a university campus environment.

The ISC has excellent links with Heriot-Watt University. You will be able to access all student facilities from the day you arrive, after being issued with a University ID card.

Of the 7,000 students on the Edinburgh campus, 30% are international, so you will have opportunities to meet people from all over the world. There are lots of societies to join in your leisure time, including ones specifically for international students. This will help you meet people and give you a chance to practise your English!

Heriot-Watt is one of the UK’s leading universities, recognised internationally for its specialist areas of science, engineering, business management, languages and textile design. The University is only a 25 minute bus ride from the centre of Edinburgh – Scotland’s capital and one of the world’s great cities.

We very much hope you will enjoy your time with us and I look forward to personally welcoming you to Edinburgh."
