A long academic tradition
Formed in 1825, originally as a Scientific and Mechanic Institute, the University has kept its scientific and mechanical roots and over the last 180 years it has successfully expanded into the arts, humanities, education, health sciences and business.

We offer high-caliber teaching with a strongly vocational emphasis and Huddersfield has been rated amongst the very best for teaching quality, as independently judged by the UK Quality Assurance Agency. The University also has many outstanding research teams with over 75% rated as nationally excellent in the most recent Research Assessment Exercise. We were also ranked joint first out of all Yorkshire universities for high quality staff and lectures in the Opinionpanel Research Survey in 2007.
