Welcome to the University of HuddersfieldThis is a modern, successful and innovative university with a long and proud tradition of engaging in teaching and research.

As an international student looking for a good place to study in the UK, you will find a warm welcome in a vibrant community. The University has over 22,500 students including 3,500 postgraduate students, which is more than many UK universities. International students are an important part of the University – there are currently 87 different nationalities represented on campus.

A long academic tradition

Formed in 1825, originally as a Scientific and Mechanic Institute, the University has kept its scientific and mechanical roots and over the last 180 years it has successfully expanded into the arts, humanities, education, health sciences and business.

Top class teaching

We offer high-caliber teaching with a strongly vocational emphasis and Huddersfield has been rated amongst the very best for teaching quality, as independently judged by the UK Quality Assurance Agency. The University also has many outstanding research teams with over 75% rated as nationally excellent in the most recent Research Assessment Exercise. We were also ranked joint first out of all Yorkshire universities for high quality staff and lectures in the Opinionpanel Research Survey in 2007.

Satisfied students

Students consistently rate their experience with the University very highly, with the friendliness and helpfulness of staff being particularly valued. In each year’s National Student Survey, Huddersfield students have ranked their University amongst the best in the UK.

Vocational focus

Teaching at Huddersfield has a strong vocational emphasis. When you move onto your degree course, you will have the opportunity to get a real taste of professional life on a sandwich courses or a shorter work placement scheme. The University's consistently good graduate employment figures are a reflection of the fact that a third of students take sandwich courses - one of the highest proportions in the UK.

Enterprise

Our students make a significant contribution to enterprise, innovation and the community. The University of Huddersfield provides fertile ground for the generation of new ideas and initiatives. We have launched successful companies, created world-class cultural events and cultivated applied research projects which provide practical benefits for industry, public services and society as a whole.

Continued investment

Across the University you will find a full range of study facilities. The University of Huddersfield has invested nearly £80 million in its estate and facilities over the last decade and has a further £70 million already planned for the next 10 years.
