The University has seven Academic Schools. Once you have completed your ISC course and embarked upon your degree programme, you will be registered in one of the schools, depending on your degree subject:

School of Applied Sciences
Courses are designed to be stimulating, enjoyable and to give graduates the skills and attributes required by employers in industry, public service and research. The institution has carried out increasingly broad applied research since its foundation over a century ago. The University invests heavily in research facilities and the School is well-equipped to carry out world class research. Research in chemistry and pharmacy continues to make national and international impact. Research in the biological and nutritional sciences spans biochemistry, environmental microbiology, molecular and cellular biology, and population biology. The School also hosts internationally recognised experts in environmental science, with emerging research strengths in transport policy and logistics.

School of Art, Design and Architecture
The School's mission is to foster the next generation of creative practitioners who will maximise their contribution to the cultural, social, and economic well being of society. It provides a dynamic and interactive learning community for students and staff to nurture, develop and exploit their creative talents towards their own professional intent. Courses reflect the way in which the creative industries work, offering students a multitude of experience in real life situations. The School works closely with employers and professional statutory bodies to ensure graduates have well developed creative, technical and cognitive skills as well as business knowledge and understanding.

University of Huddersfield Business School
The long established Business School offers a dynamic and contemporary range of courses developed in close association with employers and professional bodies. It has a reputation as a friendly business school community. Teaching uses innovative and creative techniques, and staff engage in a range of activities in the commercial world as well as research. Core research themes are enterprise, ethics and environment. Projects range from sustainability work in Africa through to award-winning knowledge transfer work in marketing. Enterprise is supported locally by the Huddersfield Business Generator and Business Mine activities where students can start-up and grow their own businesses.

School of Computing and Engineering
Recognised nationally as a provider of high quality education, the School holds a successful record for graduate employment with 94% of its students entering employment or further study. It is housed in Canalside East and West, two converted 19th century textile mills faithfully restored in the 1990s. Successful graduates are working in areas such as website production, sound production, the automotive industry, artificial intelligence, software development, the defence industry, aerospace, business management, formula one racing, telecommunications, games programming, and networking solutions.

School of Education and Professional Development
The School has trained teachers for over 50 years and enrols 3,000 students a year. Courses are characterised by flexible study options, work-based learning and professional development. The largest area of work is teacher, lecturer and tutor training. There is primary and secondary school, FE, college and higher education training for people looking to work in the area or needing to gain recognised teaching qualifications. Courses are also offered for other staff working in education, youth and community work.

School of Human and Health Sciences
The largest in the University, the School supports 4,500 students on academic and vocational courses, studying a wide range of social science and professional courses. There is a high proportion of mature students. The School offers many practice-based courses, so links with external organisations are particularly strong. It has an active research community and in the last Research Assessment Exercise, Social Work gained the highest grade of 5. Human and Health Sciences has attracted external funding of £500,000 per year to support its activities.

School of Music, Humanities and Media
A leader in teaching quality, research and scholarship, and in student satisfaction. All subject areas inspected since 1998 have received the highest gradings for teaching from the Quality Assurance Agency. Music and History both scored 5 in the last Research Assessment Exercise. Media and Journalism came out top in the national student satisfaction survey in its subject in 2006 and History has come in the top four in 2005, 2006 and 2008. Facilities are first-rate and include one of the best resourced drama departments in Europe.
