About Education, Social Sciences and Health Pre-Master's
A two term programme to prepare international students for selected taught master's degrees in the fields of education, social sciences and health at the University of Huddersfield. There will be emphasis on the use of complex reading material and the production of fully researched and referenced written work.

Core Modules
Pre-Master's English and Skills for University Study (PMESUS)
This programme will develop your English communication skills, a range of study skills, including: writing and reading strategies, presentation and seminar participation, organisation of time and materials, meeting deadlines and responding to feedback. When you have completed PMESUS modules you will be able to effectively take notes and write essays in English, give presentations, answer follow-up questions and contribute to seminar discussions.

Research Methods and Project
There are 15 hours of supervised study and 25 hours of self study per week. A mixture of examinations, assessed coursework, presentations and extended essays will be used for assessment.

Entry Requirements
Entry Requirements for Pre-Master's Education
MA Education and Youth Work
Academic: Recognised degree or Sub-degree in any subject (but social sciences/education preferred)
Plus appropriate work experience (1+ years working with an informal education organisation. E.g. one year running a weekly Scouts or Youth Club, etc)
MA Early Childhood Studies
Academic: Recognised degree or Sub-degree in any subject (but social sciences/education preferred)
Plus appropriate work experience (1+ years working in the early years or primary sector)
MA Leadership in Education and Public Services (LEAPS)
Academic: Recognised degree or Sub-degree in any subject (but social sciences/education preferred)
Plus appropriate work experience (1+ years working in the early years or primary sector)
MA International Education
Academic:
- Recognised degree or Sub-degree in any subject + work experience (listed below) OR Recognised degree or Sub-degree in relevant subject (social science/education)
- Recognised degree in relevant subject (social science/education)
- Recognised degree in any subject + 1+ years in an teaching/education role.
- Recognised Sub-degree in relevant subject
- Recognised Sub-degree in any subject + 1+ years in an teaching/education role.
MA Leadership and Development
Academic:
- Recognised degree or Sub-degree in any subject + work experience (listed below) OR Recognised degree or Sub-degree in relevant subject (social science/education)
- Recognised degree in relevant subject (social science/education)
- Recognised degree in any subject + 1+ years in an teaching/education role or a leadership role.

MA TESOL
Academic:
- Recognised degree or Sub-degree in any subject + work experience (listed below) OR Recognised degree or Sub-degree in relevant subject (social science/education)
- Recognised degree in relevant subject (English, Linguistics, Languages)
- Recognised Sub-degree in relevant subject (English, Linguistics, Languages)
- (Case by case) Recognised degree in (English, Linguistics, Languages, Arts, Humanities) + 1+ year work experience teaching ESOL/EFL
- (Case by case) Recognised Sub-degree in (English, Linguistics, Languages, Arts, Humanities) + 2 year work experience teaching ESOL/EFL.
Entry Requirements for Pre-Master's Social Science and Health
MSc Health Studies Community Development Healthy Lifestyles Routes
Recognised degree or Sub-degree in any subject. no registered health care or social practitioner requirement but must demonstrate interest and experience in relation to health/social care.
MSc Health Studies (all other routes)
MSc Health and Social Care
1. Applicants can be made if you have a recognised degree or HEI diploma (sub-degree) – normally this would be in a subject relevant to the route that you are applying for.
2. Work experience in a relevant area would normally be required – for example, experience of community working for the Community Development route.
3. You must be a registered health or social care practitioner (for example nurse, midwife, health visitor, social worker, physiotherapist or occupational therapist), for the following routes of the MSc Health Studies course:
- Acute and Critical Care
- Advanced Diabetes Care
- Advancing Midwifery Parctice
- End of Life/Palliative Care
- Health professional Education
- Long Term Conditions
4. You would normally need at least 12 months’ post qualifying experience.
5. For the Community Development, Healthy Lifestyles and Generic routes you do not need to be a registered health care or social care practitioner, but have an interest and experience in relation to health.
MA Child Welfare and Safeguarding
Recognised degree or Sub-degree in relevant subject plus two years post-qualifying experience in the field of child welfare or safeguarding.
MSc Social Work
Specific entry requirements: English and Maths GCSE Grade 3 or equivalent; Relevant Degree, 2nd Class or above; Enhanced CRB check clearance Relevant experience; all candidates are subject to an interview process.
Required English Language level:
IELTS 5.5: 2 terms
IELTS 4.5: 1-term EPM before Pre-Master's
IELTS 4.0: 2-term EPM before Pre-Master's
