About the Engineering International Year One course

The International Year One in Engineering prepares international students for direct entry to the second year of a range of Honours and Masters degrees including Electronic Engineering, Computer Systems Engineering and Mechanical Engineering.

Course Content

Core modules

Core modules will improve your English skills and strengthen your mathematics skills. They will also introduce students to study skills such as time management, presentation, essay writing and information sourcing.

Route modules

Route modules on the other hand will enable students to develop a deep understanding of the subject area that they would like to study their degree in. In this case you will focus on Engineering specific subjects.

 

Electrical/Electronic Engineering route modules:
Electrical Principles
Electronics
Computing

 

Mechanical Engineering route modules:
Mechanical Science
Electromechanical Systems
Manufacturing Materials

 

Study Structure

The course is three terms long. You will undertake directed study for 15 hours per week, and self study for 15 hours per week. Your progress will be assessed by a mixture of tests, course work, case study and exams.

Entry Requirements

Entry requirements:

Academic:
Excellent (senior) high school graduation grades.
Completed A Levels, IB or an internationally recognised Foundation Year programme.
Completed the first year of a HND or Advanced Diploma In the first year of study on a relevant undergraduate degree.

 

English language level:
IELTS - 5.0
TOEFL (computer based test) - 180
TOEFL (internet based test) - Listening 19, Reading 17, Speaking 21, Writing 19
Pearson test of English (PTE) - 46

 

Age: students are usually 18 years old and above.
