Many of the University's full-time degree courses include the option of a sandwich year where you will spend a year on work placement - in fact Huddersfield is one of the top five providers of courses with a work-placement in the UK.
The combination of a vocationally orientated course and opportunities for work experience places you in a good position in the job market. The University has placed students with many organisations and international companies around the world including Microsoft, Panasonic, Ferrari, BMW, Bosch, Intel and many more.
Our main focus at Huddersfield is to provide the types of graduates that international companies tell us that they want. Most of our courses provide the opportunity to get involved with industry, from sponsored projects and guest lectures, to internships and work placements. We are also proud of the way that our courses promote entrepreneurship and positively encourage our graduates to form their own companies and exploit their brilliant ideas.
As a graduate from the University of Huddersfield, you will be able to apply to stay on to work in the UK for up to two years.
The UK Border Agency have announced a new scheme, Post Study Work, which replaces the International Graduate Scheme. It allows international students (non-EU) to apply to stay and work in the UK for up to two years without the need for a work permit, following graduation from a UK university.
To be accepted into post-study work category, applicants must pass a points-based assessment on their 'attributes' (e.g. a UK qualification, study at a UK institution, having immigration status during UK study), English language and available funds.Further information: can be found on the Home Office web pages or by contacting a Student Enrolment Adviser.
Careers adviceThe Careers Advisory Service has an extensive library offering information on vacancy opportunities, employers, companies, postgraduate study, overseas work and study. The Careers Advisory Service holds an annual Employers Fair, a series of employer presentations and on-campus recruitment interviews, as well as events aimed at specific departments and groups.

“My course prepared me for a year in industry. At IBM, I developed the necessary practical skills to help develop my career prospects. I feel a work placement
really helped connect my studies to a real working environment.”

“I was very impressed that my course at Huddersfield allowed me to do a work placement for one year. The benefits that you get from a whole year of working in the real world have helped me out so much. I was placed at Rolls-Royce Cars Ltd which is a very well known company and was also a good start for work experience”.
