Enterprise and Careers
Huddersfield graduates' impressive employment record is a direct result of the practical and vocational approach on degree courses, combining real-work experience with high academic standards.
Work experience as part of your course
Many of the University's full-time degree courses include the option of a sandwich year where you will spend a year on work placement - in fact Huddersfield is one of the top five providers of courses with a work-placement in the UK.
The combination of a vocationally orientated course and opportunities for work experience places you in a good position in the job market. The University has placed students with many organisations and international companies around the world including Microsoft, Panasonic, Ferrari, BMW, Bosch, Intel and many more.
Enterprise
Our main focus at Huddersfield is to provide the types of graduates that international companies tell us that they want. Most of our courses provide the opportunity to get involved with industry, from sponsored projects and guest lectures, to internships and work placements. We are also proud of the way that our courses promote entrepreneurship and positively encourage our graduates to form their own companies and exploit their brilliant ideas.
Working in the UK after graduation
The Post Study Work scheme, which replaces the International Graduate Scheme, allows international students to apply to stay and work in the UK for up to two years without the need for a work permit, following graduation from a UK university.
To be accepted into post-study work category, applicants must pass a points-based assessment on their 'attributes', English language and available funds.
Many international UK companies have international concerns and our international graduates are very attractive to them. The University's careers service will offer advice and assist you in applying for suitable jobs.
Further information: can be found on the Home Office web pages or by contacting a Student Enrolment Adviser.
Careers advice
The Careers Advisory Service has an extensive library offering information on vacancy opportunities, employers, companies, postgraduate study, overseas work and study. A programme of workshops and presentations on topics such as writing a Curriculum Vitae (CV) and interview techniques helps students to prepare for employment or further study. Career Management Skills modules are offered on a number of academic courses for students.
The Careers Advisory Service holds an annual Employers Fair, a series of employer presentations and on-campus recruitment interviews, as well as events aimed at specific departments and groups.
