Facilites for studying and relaxingThe University campus straddles the recently restored Huddersfield Narrow Canal. Capitalising on Huddersfield’s industrial past, the original textile mills on the site have been imaginatively converted. Combined with investment in new buildings, this has allowed the University to expand over recent years.
Canalside, an impressive refurbished mill complex, houses mathematics and computing, engineering and design. The Grade II listed Firth Street Mills was recreated at a cost of £3.2 million providing more teaching accommodation. A landscaped area along the pleasant canal offers additional green space and 'pocket parks'.
At the entrance to the campus, the University’s main reception area is a helpful place to get maps and other information. The large tiered Central Services Building is home to the library, administration and student support.
An additional £4 million has been spent on a purpose-built Students’ Union Building, with a range of social, leisure and retail services at the heart of campus. It houses a nonalcoholic as well as alcoholic bar. A state-of-the-art Creative Arts Building, set for completion in 2008, will house a recital hall, electro-acoustic research studio, new art and design studios and live recording facilities.
There is a good choice of places to eat on campus for lunch, a snack or a quick coffee:
From the convenient University Store, you can buy snacks, confectionery, hot and cold drinks, groceries, stationery, greetings cards, newspapers and magazines, paperback books, postage stamps, batteries, electronic phone top-up, tights, shoelaces, toiletries and much, much more!
The campus is situated only a 5 minute walk from the town centre with its shops and transport links. Read more about the location of the University.

"The University is a good place to both live and study. It is very easy and convenient to get around with plenty of shops and things to do. I also like the 24-hour computing room available to students on campus."
