International Year One
Pre-Master's
For admission to the International Foundation Year:
- Academic: good high school graduation grades or equivalent academic study (see table below). Also please note that you might be required to present a portfolio as part of your application documents
- Age: students are usually 17 years old

- in the first year of study on a relevant undergraduate degree - Experience: relevant work experience (for mature students only)
- Age: students are usually 18+ years old

English Language Level
Secure English Language Test (SELT) Requirement:
You must have a secure English Language test (SELT) qualification, for example IELTS (International English Language Testing System) or TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language), to be accepted at the ISC. If you don't have a current SELT qualification, you may still apply to the ISC, but you cannot confirm your place or pay any fees until you provide the required SELT qualification. See full list of SELT qualifications on the UKBA website. If you don't have a current IELTS or TOEFL grade, please contact us to find out about alternative assessment of your English Language level.
Foundation Year & International Year One
You will need an English language level equivalent to:
- IELTS 4.5 in order to begin the International Foundation Year
- IELTS 5.0 is required to begin the International Year One
If you require additional language training before you start your Foundation Year or International Year One programme you can first join the English Language Preparation (ELP) course. You need an IELTS level equivalent to IELTS 4.0 to join the ELP course.
Pre-Master's
An English language level equivalent to IELTS score of 5.5 (with 5.5 in all subskills) is required for the Pre-Master's course.
If you do not have this score you can enrol for Pre-Master's with English for Pre-Master's (EPM) as follows:
- IELTS 4.5 (with 4.0 in all subskills) - Pre-Master's with 1 term EPM
- IELTS 4.0 (with 4.0 in all subskills) - Pre-Master's with 2 terms of EPM
Maths requirement:
All students are required to have passed maths with a final High School score of at least 50%.
All students' English and numeracy skills will be tested on arrival, and study plans may be altered accordingly. (This may incur additional costs).
Country of residence/nationality:
The ISC only considers application from 'overseas' students. Home/EU* students are not accepted.
Important note for applicants from the UK and European Union
There is a very high level of competition worldwide for degree places at the University of Huddersfield. Numbers applying from within the UK and the European Union region are especially high. Therefore, we do not accept Home/EU* students. Instead, we strongly recommend that these students consider joining an A Level programme.
