The Students’ Union is run by students, for students.
The Students' Union is your gateway to a host of activities and services. It’s also a place to gather and meet friends. You can choose from live music, sport on TV, pool, quizzes, regular comedy and video nights and general social evenings, or just to find out what’s going on.
The Union also provides a range of support services including The Advice and Information Centre, which offers confidential and impartial advice on any welfare, finance and academic issues you, may have.
A purpose-built facilityThe Students' Union building was renovated in 2005 at a cost of £10 million. This has resulted in better facilities for you to enjoy your recreational time. The purpose-built, modern facility in the heart of campus, it is home to:
The monthly Students' Union newspaper is produced by students so you can also become part of the team and get involved with the monthly editorial meetings and writing stories. There are 50 or so student clubs and societies which you can join, including those which promote intercultural understanding:
Shopping and entertainment in HuddersfieldThere are lots of different things to do in the town. Great shops can be found within a five minute walk of campus, the local cinema is an easy walk too. There is also Laser Quest (electronic tag game), various sports clubs, and numerous bars and restaurants that cater for all. The new £50 million Kingsgate Shopping Centre is adjacent to campus, offering over 40 shops including major high-street names, plus bars and restaurants.
Volunteer in the community
The Students' Union plays a practical charitable role in various projects and groups around the town. The ‘Hands-On’ volunteering initiative is your opportunity to take part in voluntary projects in and around Huddersfield. Volunteering is a great way to invest time and energy in the community. You gain valuable experience working on a project. The community gets the valuable benefit of your time and skills. Everyone benefits and you get a great CV at the end of it.
