Help and support on campus

Huddersfield is a friendly and welcoming University and we are eager for you to enjoy your work and have fun during your time here.

The International Study Centre has dedicated staff who will ensure that you get the support you need during your studies. In addition the University also provides a range of advisory, health, counselling and spiritual services.

Student support

The University provides a wide range of support services to meet the needs of international students. Special English language teachers, members of Student Services staff, administrative staff and course/personal tutors all offer assistance as the need arises.

Support for international students is always availableStudent Services is committed to supporting students throughout their time at Huddersfield. It provides a network of support enabling students to develop in a caring, friendly environment and to leave the University better equipped to face the future. The one-stop-shop, located in the Library and Computing Centre, is a place to go to ask any questions you have about finance, visa and immigration advice, careers information or general student support.

If your student visa is due to expire while you are studying at the University of Huddersfield, you will receive advice, guidance and support in submitting your application form to the Home Office.

Counselling

The Counselling Service gives you the chance to talk in confidence to professional advisers and counsellors about any issue that may be troubling you. The staff are very approachable - you can either drop in or make an appointment - and it means there's always someone to listen. When you become a student at Huddersfield, you are not on your own!

Facilities for worship

The Faith Centre on campus operates an 'all welcome' policy, and is open all week. This service is for everyone, regardless of religious belief. The team are happy to sit and listen, and to offer confidential friendship and support. Anyone who visits is treated with respect and confidentiality. The meeting room offers space for quiet conversation and a quiet room is available for those who wish to be still and pray. It is a place of peace on a busy campus.

Huddersfield is a community made up of many faiths. Naturally this is reflected in the student population, and there are student groups for Christians, Muslims and Jews.

Health services

The University Health Centre, conveniently located on campus, provides medical care under the UK’s National Health Service (NHS) and is available to all students. As an international student, you will need to register with the Centre’s doctors when you arrive. A comprehensive health service is offered by a team of doctors, nurses, physiotherapist, visiting psychotherapist and psychiatrist.
