Student accommodation

The town has some of the most cost-effective and high-quality student accommodation in the UK.

Students are advised to confirm their place on an ISC programme as soon as possible to be guaranteed of university-approved accommodation. All students must apply and secure their room via the online application system.

For September entry, please note that the University can only guarantee you accommodation if you confirm your place at the ISC early, at least before or on the 15th August 2011.

University-approved accommodation

The University of Huddersfield's preferred and approved accommodation is at Storthes Hall Park Student Village and Ashenhurst Houses. These are located off campus, and are independent of the University, being privately owned and operated. Visit the website of Huddersfield's accommodation provider.

The Residences

Whichever residence you choose, help is always at hand to deal with your problems and concerns. Each residence has on-site security 24 hours a day, seven days a week and a number of senior residents on call to help at any time. Cleaners clean all communal areas and each study room regularly. All rooms have access to broadband Internet. You have four options:

Storthes Hall Park:

Location: 336 acres of parkland to the south of the town centre campus (25 minutes by bus). Find out about travelling between the residence and campus.
Capacity: almost 1500 generously-sized bedrooms

It features a complete range of facilities including sports and leisure amenities:

• all rooms have an ensuite bathroom
• most rooms have single beds but there are some with twin beds
• study bedrooms with facilities for students with physical disabilities.
• communal kitchen/dining room shared between six and eight rooms
• kitchen equipped with cooker, microwave, fridge/freezer, water boiler, kettle and toaster
• a cafeteria, mini-supermarket, launderette and gym
• on-site entertainment includes bars, a TV lounge, poolrooms, games rooms and a video/DVD library
• top quality astroturf sports pitches
• a learning resource centre providing a comprehensive IT suite and photocopying facilities

Ashenhurst Houses:

Location: pleasant woodland 15 minutes walk from the University and 30 minutes from the train station.
Capacity: 280 students 

• rooms contain a bed, wardrobe, desk, pin board, bedside cabinet, shelf space and a wash basin
• residences comprise six or eight single bedrooms
• communal kitchen/dining areas, cosy lounge area, two toilets, shower room and bathroom
• leisure area with TV and DVD, games consoles and vending machines, shared by all the Houses
• launderette with ironing facilities
• access to the many facilities on offer at Storthes Hall Park

Accommodation costs and options

See the fees page for residential accommodation rents. You can choose a standard or en-suite rooms, smoking or non-smoking and single or mixed gender residences. All bills (and the shuttle bus from Storthes Hall Park) are included in the price. All residences are self-catering.

Licence agreement

In residences, students are expected to behave in accordance with commonly accepted rules of good behaviour and to abide by the clauses of the Accommodation Licence Agreement. ISC students who have a confirmed place in residences should familiarise themselves with this document pre-arrival. Bring it with you to the ISC, fully signed by yourself and your guarantors, and ready to return to the Accommodation Office on arrival.
