International student programs: pathways to James Madison University

A fast access route to the second year of a bachelor's degree or to master's degree programs at University in the USA, without the need for a TOEFL, IELTS, GMAT or GRE score*.

The academic pathway programs are offered at the International Study Center (ISC). They are right for you if you do not yet meet the requirements for entry to a James Madison University degree, including English Language level:

* You must take our English Language Test if you do not have a TOEFL or IELTS score. You will prepare for the GMAT or GRE during your Pre-Master's Program in the USA.

Foundation Diploma

  • includes both English for Academic Purposes and the equivalent of the first year (freshman) of university coursework

  • leading to second year (sophomore) placement into a James Madison University 4-year bachelor's degree

  • within the Foundation Diploma there are two pathway options: General Studies and Business; or Engineering and Science

Pre-Master's for qualified students

  • a mix of academic English classes, study skills for graduate studies, and orientation into the US university system

  • leading to a choice of over 30 master's degrees in James Madison University's Graduate School

  • opportunity to study up to two master's-level university credit courses, from the relevant field of study. GRE or GMAT test preparation, as required.

Pre-Master's for non-qualified students

  • an academic 'bridge' between your previous diploma or degree of at least 3 years duration, and the standard entry requirement for graduate study 

  • leading to 4 master's degrees at James Madison University, carefully selected for international students

  • pre-requisite undergraduate credit courses, GRE test preparation, and English and study skills relevant to master's degree study
