ISC students are based in the north-eastern part of the picturesque James Madison University campus, alongside other University departments and American students.

Your academic home at the university

The International Study Center (ISC) has a conference room and offices for the Center Director, Center Administrator, English teachers and University faculty who teach ISC academic classes. Meet your teachers.

Most of your English preparation classes, academic credit classes, and American culture classes are taught in university classrooms near the International Study Center. You will also have some lectures on other parts of the university campus, for instance, in JMU's Business School.

Memorial Hall Building

The James Madison University International Study Center is located in Memorial Hall. Originally the Harrisonburg High School, the building was renamed Memorial Hall in 2005 when James Madison University expanded its campus. The building also houses the College of Education, the Department of Geology and Environmental Science, and the Military Science Department.

If you need refreshment between classes, Memorial Hall has a convenient cafe on the ground floor: the Corner Bistro serves freshly made sandwiches, salads, soups and desserts, along with gourmet coffee, scones, bagels and muffins from Java City.

High-tech classroom facilities

All ISC classrooms are equipped with screens, projectors, computers, an internet connection and interactive whiteboards. Classroom computers have PowerPoint installed for student presentations. You will use a computer program called Blackboard to submit homework and assignments, participate in discussions, and stay updated about course work.

Location on campus

Memorial Hall is located in the Memorial area of campus. This area includes a new baseball and softball field complex, two student art galleries, a costume shop, the Art Education Center, and studios, classrooms and computer labs used by the School of Art and Art History. 

The Memorial Area is a 10 minute walk, or a short ride on the free campus bus service, from the central Bluestone area of campus, where the university library, health center and cinema are found. Go to the campus map.
