The goal of the University's Recreation Center (UREC) is to "Motivate Madison Into Motion". As well as a wide range of Sport Clubs and intramural sports, UREC rents or loans athletic, adventure and leisure equipment, and organizes many other activities:
Adventure: hiking & backpacking, climbing & caving, kayaking & canoeing, mountain & leisure biking, skiing & snowboarding
Aquatics: dive-in movie, swimming classes, lifeguard training, swimming endurance
Fitness: cardiovascular, weights, circuit training, nutrition & exercise class, golf training, personal trainer, speed & agility training, total body workout, assessment.
Group fitness & wellness: classes in Cycle Fit, Yoga, BOSU balance training, Boxing fitness, Step, Worldbeat Dance, Pilates, Body Sculpt, Kickboxing, African Dance, Cardio workout, Chakra Meditation, Core Training, Hip Hop dance

The University Program Board (UPB) enhances your campus experience by providing the best available alternative social programming. UPB is a student-run, student funded organization. Past and regular events include:

80 One Records is one of the only student-run record labels in the US. It promotes JMU student artists on campus and around the community. There are many ways you can get involved with 80 One Records and gain experience of the music industry.
Each year JMU presents a variety of cultural events for the entire university community during its Masterpiece Season.
The Encore and Family Series bring prestigious national and international professional touring companies and individuals to campus. In recent years, Masterpiece Season has featured such artists as Wynton Marsalis, the Harlem Boys Choir, the Richmond Ballet, Spirit of the Dance and the St. Petersburg State Ice Ballet.
The Dance, Music and Theater Series offer the finest in student, faculty and special guest performances, including jazz, classical and contemporary music concerts, student theater productions and dance recitals.
Artists' works of international, national and regional significance are exhibited in JMU's Sawhill Gallery.
JMU plans over 1400 programs each year in the residence halls. Furthermore, Resident Advisers - student workers who live in each hall - organize special programs such as tie dye parties, Halloween parties, and other weekend activities.
