While you are studying on an international student program, you receive 1 hour of formal Advising per week, in addition to your classroom time and the dedicated support from all International Study Center staff. During the Advising hour, in groups of 20-30 students, you will:
Advising for matriculation to a degree
James Madison University has a Transfer Advisor who works closely with International Study Center students in their final semester, as they prepare to progress into full-time degree study. In addition, Academic Liaisons in each academic department host Open Houses and advise ISC students on specific course requirements for 2nd year study.

Social activities and other opportunities to make new friends JMU's on-campus student Health Center is staffed by a Medical Director, 3 physicians, 4 Nurse Practitioners, Certified Physicians Assistant, Medical Technologist, health educators and Registered Nurses. Health worries are dealt with confidentially and efficiently. The Health Center operates on an appointment-only basis. Services include:

Career & Academic PlanningProvides opportunities and support in choosing your academic programs and career path. Individual appointments with an advisor can be made concerning: academic advising, Major and career decision-making, internship search and resume reviews. Tutoring, study skills workshops, paper critiques, and other academic services are also offered.

Student Work Experience CenterIf you want employment while you are at JMU, the Center can help you find a job on-campus. International students holding F-1 visas are restricted to on-campus Institutional Employment only. There are 300 departments that hire around 2,500 students per year, in jobs ranging from dining hall services to graduate assistant positions.

Student Wellness & Outreach OfficeOffers programs and speakers on various health topics including general wellness and nutrition, disordered eating, relationships, and stress management. Individual and group counseling, referrals and crisis support services are available. The staff includes counselors, certified health educators and a registered dietitian. |
