The admission process

Our expert Student Enrollment Advisors will support you through the whole process. Your admission to the Foundation Diploma or Pre-Master's program will follow these simple steps:

  1. Submit your application form by email or fax.
  2. Also send us your supporting documents:
    • official High School/University transcripts in English
    • bank statement
    • copy of your passport
    • TOEFL/IELTS score* or Study Group English Test
    • GMAT/GRE score (if required for graduate students)
    • Professional evaluation of previous academic credits (graduate students only)
    * you do not need a TOEFL or IELTS score to qualify for the International Study Center programs.
  3. We will pass your application to the Admissions Department for review of your academic qualifications.
  4. If your application is successful we send you a formal University acceptance letter within approximately three weeks.
  5. A $500 deposit (refundable if your visa is denied) must be paid to confirm your acceptance.
  6. We will release your I-20 immigration document.
  7. You then need to apply for a F1 student visa.
  8. You must pay your remaining fees (either in full or your first installment) by the payment deadline†.
  9. Before your program starts, we will ask you to complete pre-arrival documents (medical, flight details etc).
  10. When you arrive in the US, you will be met at the airport (if you have booked a transfer) and taken to your new home.

† Payment in full is due July 1st for the Fall semester, November 1st for the Spring semester, and April 1st for the Summer semester.


Application deadline

We offer rolling admissions so you can submit your application at any time, and you will be considered for the next available intake. We recommend that you apply as early as possible, because the visa application process may delay your admission.

Deadline for Foundation Diploma applicants and Pre-Master's Program applicants who intend to study one of four* master's programs

  • Summer semester starts 7 May 2012  - apply by 5 March 2012
  • Fall semester starts 20 August 2011 - apply 10 weeks before the start of semester
  • Spring semester starts 7 January 2013 - apply 10 weeks before the start of semester

 

* Pre-Master's students enjoy special application arrangements with the following 4 master's programs at James Madison University:

Some graduate programs have specific deadlines. In general, allow more time for the Graduate School to evaluate your application. From the time of application to the start of the semester in which you plan to join your program:

  • allow 12 months if you currently live outside the US
  • allow 6 months if you currently reside in the US
