On this course you will study the ways in which media, communications, and culture have become central to every aspect of our lives. Students will study a range of cultural forms such as films, novels, plays, art, photography, advertisements, magazines and news production.

Assessment:

Coursework assignments, oral presentations, group work and unseen final module examinations. There will be emphasis on the use of complex reading material and the production of fully researched and referenced written work.

The International Year One in Media leads to the second year of a Single Honours, Dual Honours, or Major in Media, Communications and Culture.
You will be able to combine a degree in Media, Communications and Culture, with any one of the following degrees:

What is Dual Honours Degree?
It’s your chance to study two degree subjects in equal amounts, over three years. You get the same depth of knowledge in each as you would if you took it as a Single Honours degree, with choices of options in each subject. Dual Honours is something we really believe in at Keele, because it broadens your studies and your career prospects.

** For calculation purposes please note that a standard tenancy length is 37 weeks, but tenancy lengths do vary depending on room type. Additional charges may be made for such items as accommodation security deposits, bedding packs and other sundry expenses.

Price validity

  • 2011/12 fees apply to all bookings made after 31st March 2011 for courses starting in 2011
  • Accommodation rents are guidelines for each academic year and are subject to change

When are your fees due?

Confirmation payment
Once you have received an offer of a place at the International Study Centre, a confirmation payment of £1,000 is required to secure your place (plus any StudyCare Insurance fees applicable). This consists of a £500 deposit and £500 in advance fees. The deposit is held to cover damages and any other incidental expenses. Any monies left at the end of your course will be returned to you.

Tuition fees
The balance of tuition fees can be paid:

  • For programmes of study lasting three terms or more: term by term, one month before the start of each academic term, or in full in advance.
  • For two-term (Pre-Masters) courses: in full in advance.

Accommodation fees
An Accommodation Confirmation Payment of £2,000 is required with the first instalment of tuition fees, due one month before term starts. This payment is used towards the cost of your rent. The balance of your accommodation fees must be paid directly to the University, after arrival, in line with their payment terms.

Making a payment

Fees can be paid by cheque, Sterling bank draft, telegraphic transfer or credit card. We accept Visa, Mastercard and American Express cards. Payments by credit and debit card are subject to a surcharge, but this is waived if fees are paid one month in advance of the course start date.
