Academic requirements for International Year One: 4 and 3.5-term courses*

  • Academic: top high school graduation grades. For a list of academic requirements by country, see the table below.
  • Age: students are usually 17 years of age or above

Bangladesh Successful completion of High School Certificate/Immediate Certificate/Polytechnic Diploma - passes in 4 subjects (HSC grades 3.0-5.0 (60%).
China (Mainland) SH2 (Gao Er): 75% average across the academic year (& the average must include key subjects). SH3 (Gao San): 70% average across the academic year (& the average must include key subjects).
China (Hong Kong) 4 x D grades at HKCEE in academic subjects (excludes Chinese (language), Chinese Literature, Religious Studies, Music, Physical Education, Art and Home Economics)
China (Macau) Successful completion of form 5 with average grade 75% or iGCSE/"O" Levels - Grade C in 5 relevant subjects including English
China (Taiwan Successful completion of Senior High 2 at an average grade of 75% or Senior High 3 at an average of 70% or above
Georgia Successful completion of Secondary School Leaving Certificate (year 12 or 11)
Ghana West African School Certificate or Senior School Certificate grades 1-6 (A - C) in 4 or more subjects.
India Standard 10 = approx GCSE at 80% or above. 10+1 (= between GCSE and AS Level) 70%. 10+2 (= AS level) 50% or above.
Indonesia SMU 2 average of 7.5; SMU 3 average of 7 out of 5 academic subjects depending from social or science stream.
Iran Transcript of High School Diploma (3 years) required - (approx between GCSE and AS Level).
Japan Upper Secondary School certificate (Kotogakko - Year 12/Senior 3) pass with 'good' grades (70% + or approx GPA 2.5+ on 5 scale).

* Academic Requirements for 4-term and 3.5-term courses are similar. However, you will need higher IELTS 5.5 score to enter the 3.5-term course as compared to IELTS 5.0 to enter the 4-term course.

China (Macau) Cambridge Overseas Higher School Cert A-E (COHSC), part study of Diploma, Higher Diploma or Associate degree.
China (Taiwan) SH3 plus evidence of further study. Part study of Junior College Diploma / Technical College / Institute or Polytechnic Diploma / Senior Vocational High School Leaving Certificate.
Georgia Successful completion of Secondary School Leaving Certificate (year 12 or 11).
Ghana OND/West African Higher School Certificate/Ghanaian A Level/Polytechnic Diploma.
India 10+2 (60% or above) or part study of College/Polytechnic Diplomas.
Indonesia High School certificate (SMA/SMU) plus evidence of further study/SKN = NVQ or diploma (D1 - D4).
Iran 4 yrs High School Diploma, Pre-University Certificate, Associate Degree or Kardani.
Japan High School/Upper Secondary School leaving certificate plus evidence of further study. Part study of Junior College Diploma / Technical Associate Degree / Vocational Training Certificate / Diploma / National Certificate.

Qatar High School certificate plus evidence of further study.  Part study of Vocational Secondary Diploma/Secondary Technical Certificate/Diploma in Technology/Bachelor Degree.
Russia Attestat with minimum GPA 4.0 plus successful completion of 1 further year (= GPA 3.0).
Saudi Arabia Part study of diploma level studies - Diploma provided by Higher Institutes and Technical Colleges / Technical College Certificate / Higher Technical Institute Diploma / College of Technology Diploma / Higher Diploma.
South Africa Must have a National Senior Certificate, with minimum grade Bs, in five relevant subjects
Thailand High School certificate (MAW6) plus evidence of further study. International Baccalaureat from an International School. Diploma in Vocational Education / Higher Certificate (Technician Level) or part study at associate/degree level.
Turkey Devlet Lise Diploması (High School Completion)- GPA 3.0 (60%)  from any high school
UAE High School certificate (Tawjihiyya) plus evidence of further study.  Part study of Specialist/University Diploma or Associate Degree.
Ukraine Attestat/11th grade – with minimum GPA 7.0 (all good and excellent grades) + plus Successful completion of 1 further year (= GPA 5.0).
Venezuela Successful completion of Bachillerato with average grade 8.
Vietnam 4-term entry: Completed Year 12: Year 12 completion report with GPA 7.5 overall, and with 7.0+ for Math and science subjects3-term entry: Completed Year 12 plus further study (university, college, standard foundation).

Academic requirements for the Pre-Masters course

- recognised higher/advanced diploma in a related subject area
- recognised degree in related field
- Honours degree in any subject

  • Age: students are normally at least 20 years old
  • Country of residence/nationality: The ISC only considers application from 'overseas' students. Home/EU students are not accepted. For a full definition of HEU students see list here on the right.

English Language Level requirements for all courses

Secure English Language Test (SELT) Requirement:

To be accepted at the ISC, you must have a secure English Language test (SELT) qualification, for example IELTS (International English Language Testing System) or TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language). If you don't have a current SELT qualification, you may still apply to the ISC, but you cannot confirm your place or pay any fees until you provide the required SELT qualification. See a full list of SELT qualifications on the UKBA website. If you don't have a current IELTS or TOEFL grade, please contact us to find out about alternative assessment of your English Language level.

All students' English and numeracy skills will be tested on arrival, and study plans may be altered accordingly. (This may incur additional costs).
