Pre-Masters

Specialist preparation for your Masters

Keele has excellent student facilities
Masters degrees in the UK

By studying a postgraduate course overseas, you are making an investment for your future. You will want a qualification that will enhance your career prospects, and a university that will support you in your studies.

For a 12-month Masters degree at Keele you will need:

  • a range of academic and learning skills which you may not have experienced in your home country
  • the ability to adapt to a new cultural environment and thrive academically
  • the right academic qualification and substantial understanding of the subject
  • the ability to use English in the academic environment to a high standard

If you do not meet the direct entry requirements for a Masters degree, or want to refresh your knowledge, this Pre-Masters course is for you.

About the Pre-Masters

The Pre-Masters is a two- or three-term programme of academic subjects, study skills and English language training. It is designed specifically for international students and will qualify you to meet the challenges of a taught Masters at the University.

Study Structure

You can choose one of three Pre-Masters routes:

Assured progression to your degree

Joining the Pre-Masters programme guarantees you a conditional offer of a place on one of the specified Masters degrees at the University. Once you have successfully completed the course, you will proceed directly to your preferred Masters programme.

Personal monitoring and support

The Pre-Masters is validated by Keele University and taught by specialists in university preparation. Your progress will be monitored at all times to make sure you remain on track to successfully complete the programme.

Assessment

Your development will be assessed regularly throughout the course. This will ensure you achieve the standard required for progression onto your chosen postgraduate degree. Assessments include coursework assignments, unseen final examinations at the end of each module, presentations and extended essays and case studies.

English Language and Study plan options

How many terms of Pre-Masters study you require depends on your IELTS level:

  • If you do not yet meet the Pre-Masters entry requirement of IELTS 5.0, you can first join our English Language Preparation course
  • If you have advanced English Language proficiency you can join the shorter two-term Pre-Masters programme.

Both the three-term Pre-Masters and two-term Pre-Masters prepare you for progression onto your chosen Masters in the following autumn.
