Helpful and supportive library staff
The staff at the Enquiry and Information Desks will help undergraduate students to use its collections, services and information resources. In addition, a team of librarians is available to help with specialised enquiries in your specific subject. They can also guide you to relevant information sources in this Library and elsewhere, and advise you how to make the best use of the Library.
Library information services
The extensive information services within the library include an on-line catalogue, access to a variety of electronic journals and databases, and access to other library catalogues and information on the internet.
Computer Services

Central computing facilities at Lancaster are provided by Information Systems Services (ISS). ISS looks after central computer hardware, software and the campus network. It also provides an extensive range of IT support and training.

All students have computer accounts which provide them with a Lancaster University email address, file storage space, high quality printing and personal web space. All student residences and PC labs (24 hour access) are connected to the campus network. A secure wireless campus network service covers the Library and other key areas of campus.
Student residences network
Students living on campus can connect their own computers to the campus network free of charge. Access to network resources on campus includes University email accounts, printers, central filestore, the central Unix service, news server and personal web space, as well as to the internet.
Help and support
The ISS Service Desk can help with all kinds of IT queries. Specialised support staff are available to deal with technical enquiries and help to integrate the use of IT into the learning process.
Student Learning Development Centre
The Student Learning Development Centre (SLDC) helps students to become effective and independent learners. The SLDC offers effective learning courses for international undergraduate students and writing tutorials for students whose first language is not English. Topics include effective reading, time management, getting the most out of lectures, note taking, essay writing, report writing for scientists, revision and exam preparation.
Virtual Learning Environment
The Lancaster University Virtual Learning Environment (LUVLE) is a web-based environment designed to support and enhance your learning experience at undergraduate level. It is used in the majority of departments to support information dissemination (lecture notes, handouts, example exercises), for communication outside the lecture/tutorial format (on-line discussions, question and answer forums) and for coursework submissions.
