Dedicated support
While studying on the International Foundation Year, you will have automatic access to a full range of student counselling and support services at the International Study Centre. The team of student advisers at the ISC are there to help with any personal, financial or academic difficulties you might have. They will help you settle in quickly during your first few days and will be available throughout your studies.
When you move into your undergraduate studies, your support continues. Lancaster has a strong support network which aims to help all students to make the most of their time at the University:
International Student Advisory Service
The Student Support Office provides guidance, advice and support to international students as well as and organising events and social trips.
Counselling Service
Offers a confidential, professional service to any member of the University who might need help or support with any personal, social, family or academic problems. All seven counsellors have relevant professional qualifications and considerable counselling experience.
Disabilities Service
Lancaster University supports students with disabilities, dyslexia and other support needs throughout their student life at Lancaster. The Disabilities Service provides advice to students and departments on the resources available, such as personal care assistance, adapted accommodation, student funding applications, assessment and support for dyslexia and technical needs, adapted examination arrangements and assistance at graduation ceremonies.
Health Services

All students of the University are required to register with a local general medical practice. The Practice based on campus provides NHS services for students and staff who register and includes both male and female doctors. A full range of services is provided and referral to specialist consultants is available for serious cases.
The University Nurse Unit
Providing a confidential service to all students, visitors and staff on campus, the experienced nursing team offers advice on a wide range of health-related matters from healthy lifestyles through to specific medical conditions. The Unit is open 24 hours during term-time and also has two in-patient beds.
Dental Clinic
The dental clinic is located in premises adjacent to Bailrigg House. The clinic offers private treatment, and is BUPA-accredited.
Natural Health Care Centre on Campus
For those who prefer alternative therapies, there are a number of natural health care practitioners based on campus. Specialisms currently include acupuncture, holistic massage, reflexology, shiatsu, medical herbalism, aromatherapy and homeopathy.
Facilities for religious worship
The Chaplaincy Centre is an independent body within the University and contains a Catholic chapel and an Anglican and Free Church chapel. The Jewish community has its own rooms including a kosher kitchen and a synagogue room. The Centre is also used for worship by the Society of Friends and for meditation by Buddhist and other groups. A large Prayer Room, with all facilities, is available for the Muslim community in Grizedale College.
