A First Class University

Described as a "first class university" Leicester is ranked 12th in the UK out of 113 universities by the UK Complete University Guide published on 24 April 2008 – rising eight places from last year. This increase in eight places has moved Leicester above the universities of Aston, Royal Holloway, Edinburgh, Exeter, Bristol, Nottingham, Kings College London, Bath and Loughborough.

The University performs well in the Guardian University Guide (14th), Times Good University Guide (14th) and Sunday Times University Guide. Leicester is also one of just 21 UK universities to feature in the world's top 200 universities (joint 16th in the UK and 151st in the world in the Shanghai Jiao Tong Table).

University of the Year 2008

Leicester has been named University of the Year by the Times Higher Education awards. In its 50th Anniversary year, this achievement is a clear demonstration of the fact that Leicester is a high quality university that is really going places. The award follows three consecutive years (2005, 2006 and 2007) of being shortlisted for University of the Year by the national media. It was also ranked joint first for teaching quality by the National Student Survey amongst full-time students at mainstream English universities.
