Introduction

The 14 week Pre-Masters/Pre-MBA course is for students with IELTS level of 5.5 or equivalent. In the first seven weeks the course develops English skills from IELTS level 5.5 to 6.5 and introduces theories and business research methods. In the last seven weeks English skills are pushed further to IELTS level 7.0 while more theoretical subjects and business models are introduced, leaving students ready to begin their Masters or MBA.

Module Details

English Language Skills for University (ESUS)
Students will raise their IELTS level to 6.5 through developing language skills, critical evaluation skills and study skills necessary at Masters level. They will prepare and deliver formal academic presentations, building upon areas covered in seminars. Through this module, students will be able to identify, summarise and synthesise key points from a variety of different types of complex academic sources to form a comprehensive and accurate overview of a particular subject area.  

Business Management
Students will develop a detailed knowledge of the academic underpinnings of business management, developing critical thinking in the field. They will analyse key business concepts and gain an understanding of how these relate to successful business management. Areas include organisational behaviour, leadership, change and culture, operations management, products and services, quality management and planning and control.

Economics, Finance and Investment
Students will demonstrate a detailed understanding of key models and concepts within the disciplines of economics, finance and investment, with the ability to evaluate their application. Students will consider leading developments in the field, integrating a variety of source materials into their written work. Using advanced techniques, they will be able to critically evaluate arguments, opinions and data within the field.

Research Methods and Project
Students will be able to prepare for and complete a research project to Masters standard, using quantitative and qualitative methods. This includes undertaking a critical, indicative literature review, synthesising material and writing in their own words. After this comprehensive research, students will deliver an appropriately presented and coherent research project.
