Life on campus at LJMU

The Students' Union is at the centre of student life at LJMU. You will be part of a caring student community both on campus and in your accommodation.

The university experience isn’t just about studying and getting a degree; it’s about meeting people from a variety of backgrounds and taking on new challenges.

Campus centres

LJMU's three large campuses ensure that no matter where you go in Liverpool, you are never far away from an LJMU building.

City Campus - near St Georges Hall, the Walker Art Gallery, the Liverpool Museum and Central Library. The ISC is located on this campus centre.

Mount Pleasant - located mainly between the City's two Cathedrals. The Liverpool Students' Union is located on this campus centre.

IM Marsh - approximately 4 miles south of the City Centre. Home to most of the University sports facilities.

LJMU's Campus Centres provide students with information, help and a range of services in one location. The Campus Centres are intended to be the first point of call for all student enquiries and have close links with the main academic units and support services. Services include welfare, health, counselling, careers, chaplaincy and accommodation issues. Read more about Student Support.

Liverpool Students' Union

The Liverpool Students Union (LSU) is a great place to relax and take advantage of a whole range of social events, support networks and commercial discounts organised for LJMU students.

The LSU has over 50 groups and societies, and if you can’t find one that matches your interests, you can always set up a new group that does. It also has its own radio station, Shout Radio, and monthly magazine, Havoc. These are managed and produced by – and for – LJMU students.

LSU Activity Zones have additional IT facilities as well as information on student volunteering opportunities and other services. You can also take advantage of the Union’s free training courses, covering everything from study skills to personal development programmes.

Most of Union’s organised activities take place in the main LSU building, the Haigh. Facilities include:

Scholars: a traditional Irish-style pub, with pool tables and big screens for showing sport, which also serves great food.

The Cooler: LSU's nightclub, which doubles up as a cinema on Sunday nights and shows all major sporting events.

The Sanctuary: great for relaxing, thanks to its comfy sofas and fair-trade café. Halal and Kosher food available.

LSU's regular ‘Give it a go’ events take students out of the city and let them experience everything from the great outdoors of the nearby National Parks to the thrills of Alton Towers amusement park.
