English Language Preparation

The course will improve your English language skills to the required level of IELTS 4.5.

ELP term dates: Autumn term: 8 September to 5 December 2008
Spring term: 12 January - 27 March 2009
Summer term 1: 14 April - 19 June 2009
Summer term 2: 22 June - 4 September 2009
Entry requirements: Minimum IELTS 3.0 (or equivalent). See Admissions section for details
Course structure: 25 hours per week tuition plus 10 hours per week of self-study
Assessment: Internal test based on the English-Speaking Union's nine-point scale

You will need to have achieved IELTS 4.5 in order to begin the International Foundation Year. If you require additional language training before you start your academic programme you can first join the intensive English Language Preparation (ELP) course, delivered at the International Study Centre.

If you have an IELTS level of 4.0 you will need at least one term of English language training and at least two terms if you are currently at IElTS 3.0.

If you don’t have a current IELTS grade, you may still apply to the ISC. Please contact us to find out about alternative assessment of your English language level.
