A technologically advanced university

Students using computing facilities at the International Study CentreLJMU’s Social Learning Zones combine the best aspects of traditional study environments with the power and flexibility of new learning technologies. You have the choice of informal seating areas where you can meet friends for a cup of coffee or work on your laptop, more formal learning zones, with individual study desks and networked PCs as well as semi-enclosed areas or pods for groups activities. Quiet study zones are also available.

LJMU offers a wide variety of well-equipped information technology suites, interactive media facilities, PCs and Apple Macs across the University campus. The two largest Learning Resource Centres are packed with over 600 computers.

Every subject, every topic, every interest is covered in the University library collections, which contain over 500,000 books plus nearly 7,000 journals in a combination of both electronic and print formats. Plus there's DVDs and CDs, satellite TV programmes, magazines, newspapers and much more.

Libraries in Liverpool

International student using Library at LJMULJMU students are also entitled to use all the libraries in Liverpool, including facilities at Liverpool Central Libraries, the University of Liverpool, Liverpool Community College, Liverpool Hope University and the Liverpool Institute of Performing Arts. Plus, you can access over 12,000 electronic titles through the largest netLibrary in Europe.

Thanks to a virtual learning environment, Blackboard, students have easy access to materials such as assignments, coursework, lecture notes, useful Internet sites and other multimedia resources. There is also specialist screen reading software for students who are visually impaired or who have dyslexia. Disabled students are provided with free photocopying and printing facilities.

Internet access in your residence

If you live in a LJMU-approved Halls of Residence and have your own computer, you will benefit from a broadband connection in your bedroom, allowing you access to the the University’s computer network.

In both of the recommended residences for ISC students, the cost of this connection is included within the rent, meaning that there is no additional cost for this service.
