Leisure time at LJMU
With over 500,000 students, Liverpool is one of the biggest student cities in the UK, so many of the shops, bars and entertainment venues offer great student offers and entertainment nights.
The University and your accommodation are in the city centre so your leisure time will reflect life in the city. You’ll never be without something to do in Liverpool – it is packed with museums, art galleries, theatres, restaurants, cinemas, music and sports venues. In addition, the Students' Union provides free entertainment seven nights a week plus various places to eat and relax.
Music
Since the 1960s, one of Liverpool's biggest exports has been music. Liverpool's vibrant music scene boasts live music venues around the city, playing host to some of the best local and international artists. From the Creamfields dance music festival, which attracts around 40,000 people each year to the royal Philharmonic Orchestra, Liverpool has something for everyone's taste.
Sport
Liverpool truly is sports mad and next to music, sport is the city's other major export. The city has two teams in the Premiership - Liverpool and Everton. But it's not just football. There are over 40 golf courses in and around Liverpool, including the world class Open Championship courses, which regularly host some of golf's biggest competitions. Liverpool is a city synonymous with great nightlife. As many as 100,000 people flock to the city centre's bars, clubs, restaurants and theatres every weekend. Whether you prefer traditional pubs or designer-chic cafés and cabaret venues, Liverpool is sure to have what you're looking for. Liverpool is also famous for its sense of humour and the city's many comedy venues are a great place to see both established and upcoming comedy.
Shopping
You can shop until you drop in Liverpool. It has all the major high street brands plus specialist designer boutiques. Make sure you ask if they offer student discounts.Getting away from it all
If you prefer to sit back and take it easy, Liverpool has over 2,500 acres of parkland and some of the finest Victorian parks in Britain - it even has its own safari park plus many local award winning beaches. Liverpool is the gateway to five national parks: Snowdonia, the Peak District, the Yorkshire Moors, the Yorkshire Dales and the Lake District, all within easy travelling distance.Volunteering

LJMU Volunteers is the student volunteering programme that has enabled over 600 students to contribute approximately 40,000 hours to the local community.
