Sport at LJMU

Whatever your level of interest or experience LJMU can provide societies, competetive clubs or even sports courses and research.

Liverpool has two great Premierships teamsThere are a wide range of sporting activities available to you at LJMU. If you are a top athlete competing at the highest level, or someone who is keen to follow an academic programme centred around the physiological and psychological aspects of sports, or if you are simply a student who wants to get fit and have fun doing it at LJMU you should be able to find an activity or sport to suit you.

Research

Our internationaly recognised sports-related research is well known for its applications in the real world of modern sport, feeding directly into areas such as professional training development and even football boot design.

Sport courses

We offer a range of exciting programmes at all levels in areas that embrace sport and exercise science, outdoor and environmental education, PE, sport and dance. Facilities include physiology laboratories, hydro-static weighing equipment, and biomechanic and temporal isolation laboratories.

Or just for fun!

Becoming part of a team or taking part in physical activity can be a great way to unwind, keep fit and meet new people. LJMU co-ordinates sporting opportunities for every student regardless of ability or background from competitive teams to fun societies:

Sport scholars

Our sport scholarship scheme for elite athletes has enabled some top sporting stars to take advantage of specially tailored fitness and academic programmes to enable them to study without detracting from their vigorous training regimes.

Current scholars include Olympic gymnast Beth Tweddle, high jumper, Martyn Bernard and 800m runner Michael Rimmer.
