As a Foundation Year student, you will be fully supported by the dedicated ISC staff. As you progress onto your degree course, the high levels of support you receive will be maintained by the University’s Student Welfare Services.
Help with English
All undergraduate and postgraduate programmes are delivered in English. That’s why the University offer English ‘help’ classes throughout the academic year, which can give you additional support with writing essays, extending your vocabulary and improving your grammatical skills. These classes are free to all LJMU students and offered twice a week during term time at locations across the university.
International Student Welfare Adviser

LJMU's International Student Welfare Adviser is dedicated to helping you settle into life at Liverpool and the University. They are experienced in dealing with all kinds of questions such as visa renewal, moving to new student accommodation, finance and budgeting and preparing to return home.
International Family Liaison Officer
Provides support and assistance to international students who are bringing their families with them while studying at LJMU. They also organises social events throughout the year for international students.
Support for students with disabilities
LJMU has a Disability Welfare Adviser and a Disability Support Worker who co-ordinate services for all disabled students within the University.
Health Services
Specialist University staff ensure that your health, both mental and physical, remains good and that you receive the most appropriate support.
Facilities for worship
The LJMU Chaplaincy Team work alongside staff and students regardless of faith. From the first mosque in the UK, to temples, synagogues and churches of all different denominations, whatever your faith, there will be somewhere for you to worship in Liverpool. The Chaplaincy can help put you in contact with religious groups throughout Merseyside.
Counselling Service
LJMU’s main counselling service is free, confidential and offered on a one-to-one basis. We also run a drop-in service plus group work and skills training workshops on issues such as assertiveness and exam stress management.
Study Skills
Regular workshops are offered on IT skills, academic writing, numeracy and maths support, revision skills, and referencing.
