Teaching and Learning

A globally unique approach to Higher Education: ‘more than just a degree’.

Graduate skills

Every LJMU undergraduate degree is designed to give students a range of opportunities to learn, practise and receive feedback on their graduate skills development. These transferable graduate skills are applicable to a wide variety of professions and careers:

Work-related learning

International Student in Library at LJMUAll undergraduate students also complete some form of work-related learning. The duration and format this takes will depend on the degree studied but could include field trips and workplace simulations as well as placements out in the workplace.

Skills statement

Students who fulfil specific skills criteria will be able to graduate with a Skills Statement: an evidence-based, university-validated certificate of their competency in up to eight graduate skills.

Personal tutor

LJMU will provide you with a personal tutor who can give you advice on assignments, your skills development, and any other concerns that you may have about university life.

Personal Development Planning

A key feature of LJMU’s approach to transferable skills development is the provision of individual feedback from modules and the discussion of this evidence in Personal Development Planning sessions. This will ensure that you know how you are performing in each of the core skills, where any gaps might be, and how you can secure the required skills and experience.

Postgraduate study

LJMU's taught and research postgraduate programmes span a wide range of disciplines: the arts, humanities, business and commerce, social science, engineering and science. MPhil/PhD and professional doctorate opportunities are available to students with the relevant qualifications.
