World of Work

Enjoy great career prospects with the new 'world of work' programme.

International students enjoy great career prospects at Liverpool John Moores UniversityLJMU has been talking to business leaders about what they expect from today's graduates. They all agree that the University's academic credentials are second to none. But they expect more; from LJMU and from its graduates.

The University believes its new approach to higher education can meet their demands. That's because it places work-related learning and skills development at the heart of the university experience.

Representatives from Marks and Spencer, the Confederation of British Industry, Shell International, Sony and other leading organisations are now working closely with the University to determine a range of higher level ‘world of work', or WOW skills that students should have by the time they graduate. These WOW skills will include professional and business ethics, finance, entrepreneurship and negotiation skills.

When combined with the eight graduate skills and work-related learning now integral to LJMU undergraduate degrees, these WOW skills will mean that you'll not only graduate with a high quality degree but also the skills and experience demanded – and identified – by today's employers. And, you'll have a new skills certificate to prove it too, helping your CV stand out from the crowd when applying for graduate jobs.

"This is what industry wants from its universities Intelligent graduates with relevant skills"

Miles Templeman
Director General, Institute of Directors

"I really think that what LJMU is doing could make a huge difference to employers and students"

Naomi Climer
Vice President, Sony Europe

Graduate Development Centre

The WOW skills will be verified in the University's new Graduate Development Centre. A state-of-the-art training and assessment venue, it operates as the 'hub' for all of the University's student employability initiatives, such as skills validation, student enterprise, Business Bridge and careers guidance.

The Centre also offers a programme of free sessions designed to improve students’ employability and prepare them for gaining their first graduate job.
