From the beginning, Manhattan has had an enviable reputation for its outstanding athletic programs. The College's early athletes became known as Jaspers, so-named after the baseball coach during the 1880s. Ever since, Manhattan’s athletes have been known as Jaspers (later to include Lady Jaspers) and through the years many have achieved renown as Olympic athletes, NCAA champions and legendary record-winning teams. Historically track and field has been the College's strongest sport. Visit the Jasper's website.

Manhattan is a multiple winner of the MAAC (Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference) trophy for best athletic program. Whatever your game, there are great facilities waiting for you (see list to the left).

Intramural sports

The Intramural Sports Program encourages participation in a competitive, yet fun, sports environment. Intramurals are designed to provide participants with a flexible yet structured schedule. Teams come from residence halls, fraternity or sororities, off-campus groups and many more. Students can either form their own intramural teams or enter as an individual to be placed on a team. There are no coaches or practices, and teams within the College play each other.

Intramural competition is held annually in the sports of:
