ESL Transition Program - Learn English and Earn Academic Credits
ESL Transition Program at Merrimack College provides a fast, academically focused route to regular university classes – combining practical preparation with the opportunity to earn university credits as early as your first semester. The program is divided into two phases:
Phase 1: Builds on basic language abilities by increasing fluency and academic skill for a successful passage to the more advanced use of English. Core classes include reading/writing/listening/speaking and grammar.
Phase 2: Combines English language classes with up to 3 credits of university classes to fully integrate language and cultural integration into the Merrimack environment.

- Build study skills important to your academic success at Merrimack. This includes: develop research methods, exam taking tactics, time management, essay preparation, speed note taking and power-listening
- Personalize your progress through our online learning program and Guided Independent Learning projects
- Begin university credit classes as soon as you reach the equivalent of TOEFL iBT 61
