PLU undergraduate Transition Program

The Pacific Lutheran University ESL Transition Program provides a fast, academically focused route to regular university classes – combining practical preparation with the opportunity to earn university credits as early as your first semester. The program is divided into two phases:

  • Phase I builds on basic language abilities by increasing fluency and academic skill for a successful passage to the more advanced use of English. Core classes include reading/writing/listening/speaking and grammar.
  • Phase II combines English language classes with up to 3 credits of university classes to fully integrate language and cultural integration into the Pacific Lutheran University environment.

“In the transition program, we get a lot of helpful classes to prepare us for PLU classes. Besides the English classes, they have a GIL class to teach us how to learn in American university. I really like the business English class, because my major is business, it was very helpful to me.  The mock university class is also helpful.  It teaches us what it will be like to learn in an American university class. The transition program not only teaches us the English language, but also gives us many other classes to prepare for a PLU degree.”
