Homestay accommodation for students in Canada

Students who are 18 and under must live with homestay families near the campus. Students 19 years old and over may choose between homestay and private accommodation.

Homestay accommodation

Through the services of Canada Homestay International (CHI), you have access to caring family homes during your time in Canada.

Homestay accommodation means you will live with a Canadian family and be exposed to, and participate in, Canadian culture and customs. It is also a great way to enhance English language study through after school practice with the host family. A host family typically plays an important role in helping you adjust to Canadian life. As much as possible, students are included in the family unit.

Quality. Experience. Safety.

Canada Homestay International has a well-established network of 4,000 experienced host families across Canada, with over 500 host families in the Victoria region. Their staff have personally inspected each home and have interviewed the family to guarantee a safe, clean and comfortable homestay environment for every student. No more than three students are accommodated by a single host family.

The homestay environment

The homestay family provides a private, furnished bedroom and your meals.

All homes are located in appealing and safe neighbourhoods of Greater Victoria, accessible to Royal Roads University by public transportation. Most homestay locations are between 20 and 45 minutes from campus.

Support for homestay students

For the duration of their stay, students are supported by CHI multilingual relationship managers, who help them adjust to life in a homestay.

CHI also provides custodianship services to students. In order for you to receive your Canadian study permit, non-Canadian citizen below 19 years of age are required to declare a Custodian. The Custodian must be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident over 19 years of age, who lives in the same city as the student.

Private accommodation

Private accommodation for international studentsStudents aged 19 or over who would prefer a more independent living environment can stay in private accommodation. Royal Roads University can assist with arrangements. Private accommodation options have kitchen facilities, are often shared with other students, and are located in downtown Victoria (about 30 minutes by car from the university campus).

Students living in private accommodation must prepare their own meals, and the cost of food is not included in the fee.

Student accommodation fees
