Maclean's, a Canadian news magazine, publishes an annual unofficial ranking of Canadian universities: Maclean’s University Rankings. Maclean's asks for RRU information every year and it is submitted it for their consideration.

However, Royal Roads University does not appear in the final Maclean's University Rankings because it is not comparable to other Higher Education institutions in Canada. Maclean's does not rank institutions that have a specialized mission. Since Royal Roads University is the first public university in Canada created to address the knowledge needs of working professionals through applied and professional programs, it is not included.

Royal Roads University is the first Canadian Higher Education institution to receive a silver ranking from the Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education, through its Sustainability Tracking, Assessment and Rating System (STARS).
