Student Activities - Adventure for Everyone!
Here at Sierra Nevada College, life is taken with a momentum and energy. Learning. Boarding. Exploring. Skiing. Creating. Biking. Analyzing. Hiking. Discovering! The Student Activities Office oversees and nurtures the college’s extracurricular life. Extracurricular activities are considered part of the college experience and are important in the development of each student as a whole person.
Sports at Sierra Nevada College
With 15 ski resorts within a 45 minute radius, it is no wonder the most popular sport at SNC is skiing – both downhill and snowboarding. If that isn’t your thing, you can play soccer, or join the Equestrian team and compete in both Western stock seat and English hunt seat classes, or join the Mountain Bike team and compete in cross-country, downhill, dual-slalom, and short-track. SNC also has volleyball, basketball, football, and ultimate Frisbee teams to join as well.

The Sierra Nevada College Outdoor Adventure Program
The Outdoor Adventure Program is a student-funded program offering high-quality outdoor adventures. Launched in an effort to create more program options for students. The trips are built around weekends and include backpacking in Yosemite, rock climbing near Bishop, sea kayaking on Lake Tahoe, as well as river rafting along the American River. The goal of the program is multifaceted and designed to promote wilderness adventures in the Sierra Nevada, team building, and leadership development. Overall, the program reaches more than 100 SNC students and provides unique experiences for those involved in the program. The sense of adventure, camaraderie, and support generated during these trips is significant.
This program provides several significant contributions to student life at SNC. Primarily, this program offers students options other than staying on campus during the weekends. Secondly, it helps students become acquainted with the challenging environment presented to an 18- or 19-year-old who has just moved to Lake Tahoe. Lastly, it provides an opportunity for experienced students to excel in the outdoors and develop their wilderness leadership skills.
