Entry requirements for Undergraduate preparation programmes

Students must meet minimum Academic and English language requirements for entry to the Undergraduate Certificate and the Diploma. If you are unsure whether you meet the requirements, please contact us.

For admission to the Undergraduate Certificate (International Year One):

  • Nationality: The International Foundation year is only available to "overseas" students, non-UK and non-EU
  • Academic: Good high school graduation grades or equivalent academic study (see table below)
  • Country of residence/nationality: 'overseas' students only (HEU students are not accepted - see note below)
  • Age: Students at the International Study Centre are usually 17 years of age or above. See our FAQs for more information.

Iran Successful completion of High School Diploma (3 years) with an average grade of 15
Japan Successful completion of Kotogakko with grade average of 70% or 3.5
Jordan Successful completion of Tawjihi with average of 80%
Kazakhstan Successful completion of ATTESTAT/Certificate of Secondary Education with grade average of 4
Korea Successful completion of High School Diploma with grade average of 4
Libya Successful completion Secondary Education Certificate with average of 80%
Macau Successful completion of form 5 with average grade 75%
Mexico Successful completion of Bachillerato with average grade 8
Nigeria Successful completion of West African School Certificate (WAEC) or Senior School Certificate with C6
Pakistan Successful completion of High Secondary Certificate with passes in 4 or more subjects with an average of 60%
Qatar Successful completion of Thanawaya Aam Qatari with average grade 80%
Russia Successful completion of ATTESTAT/Certificate of Secondary Education with grade average of 4
Saudi Arabia Successful completion of Tawjihi with average of 80%
Taiwan Successful completion of Senior High 2 at an average grade of 75% or Senior High 3 at an average of 70% or above
Thailand Successful completion Mathayom 6 with GPA 2.0
Turkey Successful completion of Deviet Lisen Bitirme Diplomasi or High School year 3 with average grade 4
UAE Successful completion of Tawjihi with average of 80%
Ukraine Successful completion of ATTESTAT/Certificate of Secondary Education with grade average of 9
Venezuela Successful completion of Bachillerato with average grade 8
Vietnam Successful completion of Year 12 with average grade 7

 IB or A/AS levels  24 / 80 UCAS points
 IGCSE  5 passes at A-C in relevant subjects

For admission to the Diploma (International Year Two):

  • Nationality: The International Foundation year is only available to "overseas" students, non-UK and non-EU
  • Academic:
    - Good High School graduation grades or equivalent, plus up to one year of further study, or
    - recognised foundation year programme or A level/ IB
  • Country of residence/nationality: 'overseas' students only (HEU students are not accepted - see note below)
  • Age: Students must be a minimum of 17 years of age on entry to the ISC


English Language Requirements:

Students must meet a minimum IELTS level of 5.0 for the Undergraduate Certificate and 5.5 for Diploma for direct entry to the programme. However, students with a lower English level can take extra English tuition before joining the academic programmme with our English Language Preparation (ELP) programme.

English Language Preparation (ELP)

The English language Preparation programme (ELP) is an intensive course designed to improve students English to the required level for our academic programmes. ELP programmes start in the June and September prior to the start of the academic programme.

Students who have an IELTS level of 4.0 or over will study one term of English Language Preparation (ELP).

Entry requirements IELTS 4.0
Course structure: 25 hours per week tuition plus 10 hours per week of self-study
Progression On successful completion, students progress on to either the International Year One or International Year Two

All students' English and numeracy skills will be tested on arrival, and study plans may be altered accordingly. (This may incur additional costs).
