If you would like to study at Surrey, but do not meet the requirements for direct entry to the University, you can take the International Foundation Year at the International Study Centre (ISC), which will ensure you gain the skills and knowledge to succeed in your degree.

 

The International Foundation Year*

The International Foundation Year is a three-term programme of academic subjects, study skills and English language training designed specifically to provide international students with a direct path to degree study at the University.

There are two subject route options offering specialist preparation for a wide variety of undergraduate programmes.

The International Foundation Year is run by Study Group, a world leader in education and training for international students. Every year, Study Group provides exceptional educational programmes for over 60,000 students from more than 130 countries. 

Study Structure

You can choose one of two International Foundation Year routes:

Business, Economics, Law and Politics*»

Engineering, Science and Mathematics*»

All Foundation routes are unit in structure. There are 3 core units, English and Skills for University Study 1, 2 and 3 common to each route. You will also study 3 subject-specific units, each carefully designed to focus on the academic areas most useful to your chosen degree.

*The International Foundation Year programmes are subject to review.

Flexible Entry

You can begin the International Foundation Year in either September or January and begin your University of Surrey degree in the following September.

University – Style Teaching

The International Foundation Year at the University of Surrey introduces you to the style of teaching that you will experience when you progress onto your degree. You will experience tutorials, seminar style classes and larger group lectures.

Personal Monitoring and Support

The International Foundation Year is taught by specialists in university preparation.

Your progress will be monitored at all times to make sure you remain on track to successfully complete the programme. You will also benefit from regular assessment through examination and marked coursework at the end of each term or module.

This will ensure that your progress is on track to achieve the standard required for progression onto your chosen degree programme.

Progression to your Degree

Joining the International Foundation Year guarantees that you will receive a conditional offer of a degree place at the University. Soon after you join, you will be helped to nominate the degree programme onto which you want to progress.

At the end of programme, you will be required to take an IELTS test and obtain 6.5 with minimum of 6.0 in all components in order to progress to a degree at the University of Surrey. Costs will be covered by yourself and paid directly to the IELTS Test Centre.

You will also need to achieve the relevant academic grades on all modules. You will then proceed directly to your preferred degree programme.
