Lin Kimi
Lin is Chinese. She studies on the Business, Economics, Law and Politics Foundation and plans to do a degree in Hospitality Management.
"I chose to study in the UK because of its good study environment. At the ISC we have a lot of events for playing together and I enjoy having fun with friends.
The course is interesting and the teachers are so nice. They try their best to let us understand the course. They give me the confidence to go to university. We have a lot of presentations that can help us to be more confident, sometimes individual coursework and sometimes groupwork. I think now I can handle almost all the work.
My long-term career goal is to manage a hotel, of course a 5-star hotel if I can. Or maybe if I get a chance, I would like to run a hotel."
Abdullah AlSubaie
"Hello, my name is Abdullah AlSubaie, I’m from Riyadh the capital of Saudi Arabia. I have done my foundation year in Engineering, Science and Mathematics at the International Study Centre at the University of surrey. I achieved 69% over all average in 10 different modules. Nowadays I'm a first year student doing a medical engineering degree.
I chose to have my first degree in the UK looking for better career and experience. I decided to join the University of Surrey for my first degree studies because of its achievement and its location. It is close to London as well as the sea side. University of Surrey has a very good student union which has lots and lots of activities so you can spend fun times and you can meet your new friends from all over the world in there.
The ISC days are unforgettable days, we have lots of memories. We were enjoying the activities which were organised by the ISC. Studying at the ISC was the platform for me in my university life, which made my life easier with my studies. Most of the topics in maths, physics and mechanics are relative and helpful to the first year modules in the Engineering department in general. Also, the teachers were the main reason for my successful year in the foundation year, they were really helpful.
In terms of my future plans, I would like to finish my first degree then I'll apply for a MBA at University of Surrey. After that, I will work as a biomedical engineer in King Fahad's hospital in Riyadh and I will start my own business as well."
Winnie
Winnie is from China and she studied on the Business, Economics, Law and Politics Foundation. She is now studying International Hospitality Management at University.
"I chose to study at Surrey and in the UK because I want to improve my English skills.
At the ISC I enjoyed new ways of studying, it's different from High School. I also enjoy new friends, new stuff and a different 'ME'. Everyone was so close together, the ISC is just like my little family.
The teachers are very nice, they help you whenever you have questions. The course is related to my 1st degree study so it did help a lot, otherwise I won't be able to understand all my studies now.
My long-term career goal is to have my own cafe or hotel with my brother.
Fahad Bin Abdulaziz
Fahad from Saudi Arabia studied on the Engineering, Science and Mathematics Foundation programme and is now studying for a degree in Mechanical Engineering.
"Hi, I'm Fahad from Saudi Arabia, I came here to begin my undergraduate studies at University of Surrey. As an overseas student, however, I was required to do a foundation course and fortunately I applied for the ISC, the place where you can get the knowledge you need mixed with loads of fun and memorable times.
In terms of the academic gain, the course might seem tough or boring to some students at the beginning, but believe it or not, as a first year engineering student many if not all of the topics we covered at the ISC, we are just re-taking them now.
So the ISC does make you a step ahead of the others. Apart from the academic life, the ISC will be your second home and will give valuable experience in your social life as well, since the small facility area helps you to make friends not only with your classmates but with your wonderful teachers and friendly staff
The ISC paves the way to your academic and social life at University."
