Library facilities

The magnificent Library building stands in the centre of campus and has impressive IT facilities and study spaces. Around 15,000 new books are added each year and the Library subscribes to over 20,000 journals in either print or electronic format.

The University Library provides a quiet and comfortable place to study. It is open into the evening and at weekends during term time. Should you need advice when using the Library, the friendly staff are there to help. Much of the Library's information is also available over the internet so you can use the electronic library anywhere and at any time.

InfoSuss
A web-based tutorial to help you find your way through the many electronic resources. InfoSuss will show you how to use the Library catalogue and find information online.

Special collections
The Library has a unique collection of manuscripts, archives and rare books, including the papers of Rudyard Kipling, Virginia and Leonard Woolf, and the archive of the New Statesman, as well as the world-famous Mass-Observation Archive. Many of these special collections are used in University courses.

Information and Technology Services (ITS)

ITS provide a range of computer facilities to help you study successfully. Located across the campus, many with 24-hour access, all PCs have a customised desktop, a full Microsoft Office suite, email and internet access. You can print from and use your personal file storage area with all these PCs. In addition, specialist software is provided and a small number of iMac computers. There are a number of adapted PCs for students with disabilities and additional learning needs.

IT Services staff offer help and support via the web, by email, over the telephone and in person. There is also an extensive range of ICT skills training courses.

If you live on campus, you can use your own computer to access the residential network, which provides internet access to student bedrooms.

Wireless networking at the University
We strongly encourage you to bring a laptop so that you can take advantage of our extensive wireless network. As well as being able to prepare your written assignments when and where you choose, you will be able to access virtual learning and online support and information services.

Sussex Direct
When you start your degree programme, you will be able to log into Sussex Direct for personal and secure access to information about your courses, reading lists, timetables and marks. You will even have access to your timetable via some mobile phones.

The bookshop

The campus bookshop stocks a wide range of both academic and general-interest books. Experienced staff work with degree tutors to keep reading lists up to date, and aim to ensure that course books for degree subjects are available.
