University accommodation

Confirm your booking early for the best accommodation

If you want to be sure to get a place in the Halls of Residence that University of Sussex recommends, you need to confirm your place on an ISC programme by 1st September.

See our Admission page for details on how to confirm your place on your ISC programme

When you move to a new country, you need to be certain that you have somewhere comfortable and convenient to live. As an ISC student, assuming we receive your housing application by the relevant deadline, you are guaranteed a place in University-managed accommodation.

Residence facilities

All University accommodation is self-catering, with cooking facilities in communal kitchens. A standard University-managed room has:

  • curtains and carpets
  • a bed
  • desk and chair
  • desk lamp
  • wardrobe
  • easy chair
  • shelves
  • sink and towel rail (most rooms although not all)

Bathroom facilities are normally shared, although a third of the accommodation is en-suite. Residences on campus are all equipped with telephones and broadband internet access. There is a launderette on campus, along with shops, a doctor and dentist and other essential facilities.

Bedding pack vouchers

If you are staying in university accommodation and require a bedding pack, please download a Bedding Voucher (, 136KB). This voucher should be filled in with your name, and handed in to the porter at each student residence, in exchange for a bedding pack.

The bedding pack consists of sheets, a duvet cover and a towel. The cost of the bedding pack is £35 and will be invoiced to you by the ISC.

Rooms for different needs

Most rooms are designed for one person, but we have some shared rooms and a small number of family flats suitable for a couple and a young child. We also have a limited amount of housing adapted for students with a disability.

Ideal for making friends

We know that when you first come to the University you may feel anxious that you do not know anyone. But everybody feels the same and, living in University accommodation, you soon get to know your neighbours. To help you settle in, most residences have a live-in residential adviser - an established Sussex student who will help you when you arrive and can assist with any minor problems.
